Our devotional thought for today is found in Hebrews chapter 1:1-3. This chapter is all about the Son.

During our daily lives, we may lose sight of who Jesus is from a heavenly perspective. Let’s take a moment to consider what these three verses tells us about the Jesus:

  • In the past, God spoke through the prophets. Now he speaks through the Son,
  • God appointed the Son heir of all things,
  • Through the Son, God created the Universe (Lit. the ages),
  • The Son is the radiance of His glory, the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the power of His word.
  • After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The text speaks of different times when God did things in different ways. Before the creation, He appointed the Son as heir of all things. The son created the Universe. The text literally reads “created the ages.”

For a time, He spoke to mankind through prophets. Now men hear the Gospel, are saved by grace through faith, indwelt by His Spirit, and adopted as His children. We couldn’t go back to the old dispensation if we wanted to.

The Son has come to His creation, purified all men from their sins and saved all who accept that gift, and then He sat down at the right hand of the Father. The work He came to do is finished (John 19:30).

If we want to know God, we now need only look at the Son. He is the radiance of His glory, the exact representation of His nature.

That is why we study. That is why we go to church. We want to know God through the Son.

As you go about your life today, remember that God is speaking. Listen. Consider. Live in the time you are in and embrace the purpose behind it. Don’t miss this moment!
