Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way opened for us through the curtain of His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

One of the central themes that the writer of Hebrews develops in the first ten chapters is the idea of having confidence to draw near to God. His argument here is “since we have confidence… let us draw near.”

When we think of who we are, that person that only you and I know, confidence isn’t always our first thought. We’ve lost count of the many ways we have failed. We’ve hurt others with our words and actions. It’s hard to have confidence in that person.

If you look closely at what the author has said up to this point, the confidence he speaks of is based not on what we have done but what God in Christ has done. It’s a confidence we get when we look at Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father. It’s the confidence we find in what has been done for us.

Let me leave you with this thought today. Since we have confidence, let us draw near. Confidence without drawing near isn’t much more than empty theology. Faith without action is unprofitable, empty, useless. Faith that steps forward benefits us and others, is full of promise, and is the most powerful tool a person can have. Don’t let this day go by without drawing near!
